You just can’t make this stuff up. It has sex, violence, religion and drunkenness. What more can you ask for?
SILVERDALE
Highly intoxicated and dissatisfied with her sex life, a 28-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday for stealing her husband’s wallet and later assaulting the deputy who booked her into jail.
The meltdown, which deputies witnessed along with the couple’s 3- and 4-year-old children, started when the husband, 24, had told his wife they had three hours to quit smoking, drinking, swearing and engaging in some sex acts because “they were going to be good Christians now,” the woman said.
The man said she had woken him up to have relations, but then became disappointed and angry.
Kitsap County deputies were called to the apartment on the 11800 block of Majestic Lane NW at 2:38 a.m. after a neighbor overheard yelling, crying and slamming doors, the report said.
When deputies arrived, the woman denied any assault had taken place, and repeatedly, without sparing a vulgar euphemism, told the deputies about how unsatisfied she was with her sex life — some of the time carrying around a half-gallon of whiskey while doing so.
During an argument with one of the deputies, the woman picked up the family’s 20-pound dog and threw it at the deputy, who caught it, the report said.
The deputies convinced the couple to separate for the night, and the man said he was taking their children to a hotel. But the 28-year-old returned to the apartment and took her husband’s wallet, military identification card and keys.
The woman resisted being arrested for theft — her screams were described as “blood-curdling” by one of the deputies. The deputy who drove the woman to jail reported she questioned his manhood, asked God to forgive him because “he knows not what he does,” and “donkey-kicked” him in the shin while he attempted to walk her from his patrol car to the jail, reports said.
She was booked for second-degree theft and third-degree assault.

In a recent interview with Christianity Today, “Expelled’s” Ben Stein was asked a question. His answer, I think, says it all:
How familiar were you with the subject of Intelligent Design prior to this?
Stein: Not at all. I’m still not that familiar with it. I’m more familiar with it than most people, but nowhere near as familiar with it as a genuine expert in the subject. I don’t pretend to be a scientist. I’m the person who moderates the discussion between and among the scientists.
Mr. Stein, one should not go about pretending to be an expert in matters of which he knows nothing about. One should not then make a movie about matters he knows nothing about. Why? Because you come off as looking like a douche-bag.

I just finished watching “The Daily Show”, and Jon Stewart had as his guest, Republican hopeful, John McCain. Stewart brought up the Rev. Wright/Barack Obama issue, and how Obama has distanced himself from Wright. It appeared Stewart was ready to nail McCain to the wall over his relationship with hate-monger/bigot/Christian Zionist, John Hagee, pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas. Instead, Stewart asks McCain to distance himself from the President, who, admittedly, is also a douche-bag. My beef with this is that no one is asking McCain the hard questions about his relationship with Hagee, who, IMHO, is a worse hate-monger than Wright. McCain needs to be held accountable and forced to come clean on this issue. I for one don’t want a religious nut-job and fanatic like Hagee having the ear of the President of the world’s most powerful nation.

In an earlier post I expressed my disappointment with “The Chronicles Of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.” My main beef concerned the use of “Green Screens”, where the actors perform before a green screen that is digitally filled in later. I was dismayed over the fact that, in this case, it looked too obviously fake. In interviews with the director of Caspian, it appears that this has been corrected with this second movie. More on location filming took place, in various places, which should give a more realistic feeling to this movie. The other issue, in regards to TL,TW & TW, was Disney’s concern that Caspian make a bigger impact at the Box Office. TL, TW & TW pulled in over $700 million. So, my question is, if a movie that grosses $700 Million is considered a failure, what would Disney consider a success?
I don’t expect this to be a movie in the league of The Lord of The Rings, but, I will give it a chance.

This is old news by now, but I actually just came across it today. It is a video showing the opening of Al Gore’s “An Inconvenient Truth”, and a scene from “The Day After Tomorrow.” Just FYI, the shot is not real, as Gore would have us believe, it’s all CGI. So, this raises an interesting point. If Gore would have us believe that this is an actual shot of flying over icebergs, and we later find out it is actually not a real image, is it a lie? If it is a lie, then how can we be sure anything else he says is true. Now, before you go off and rip me apart, saying, “Oh, you’re one of THOSE people, denying global warming.” Well, no, I do recognize that we are in the midst of some type of obvious climate change. It’s a question of integrity. If one is going to make a statement as fact, then one would think that what he is basing it on is real, not some creation in a Hollywood CGI studio. For me, it calls into question everything else that follows.

This from the Chicago Sun Times:
With an out-of-control car bearing down, Joseph Richardson grabbed his 4-year-old daughter and held her up out of harm’s way.
It was his last act — and one that apparently saved his daughter’s life.
Richardson, a 39-year-old father of three, was killed Monday evening by the car, driven by a man who police say was drunk.
The car pinned Richardson and his daughter Kaniyah against a wrought iron fence at 95th Street and Wentworth, police said.
Kaniyah survived and was listed in critical but stable condition Tuesday evening at Comer Children’s Hospital, where a spokeswoman said she was doing well.
“He held the baby up to keep the car from destroying the baby, but it totally destroyed him,” said Richardson’s father, the Rev. L.V. Richardson.
Richardson was walking his daughter to a McDonald’s for burgers at 6:40 p.m. Monday when a 1990 Chevy Cavalier jumped a curb and careened towards them, police said, citing witness accounts.
He grabbed his daughter just before the car slammed the two into the fence, police said.
Richardson was pronounced dead shortly after the crash — a loss his twin, Timothy, said he felt before he was told.
“All day I just had a real bad gut feeling that something tragic was gonna happen,” the hospital maintenance worker said. “And then when I was at home I could feel him and see, visualize what happened. . . . Right before they called me I could see him being in an accident. I knew he was gone.
“We had a very special connection and I just felt it.”
The driver of the car, Angelo Thomas, 32, of the 200 block of West 95th Street, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated driving under the influence, police said. He was also cited with driving without a valid license or insurance.
Joseph Richardson, the father of two girls and a boy, all under the age of 11, was described as a devoted father. His other love was music. He was a gifted pianist and organist and performed in choirs at Cottage Grove Baptist Church and Greater Revelation Missionary Baptist Church, where his father ministers. His idols were Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder, his family said.
He wanted to go back to school for a degree in music or theology and become a practicing minister, his brother said.
One of four tight-knit siblings who grew up in the Roseland neighborhood, Joseph Richardson was adept at keeping those close to him safe.
“We looked out for one another,” said Timothy Richardson. But Joseph, the larger twin, did most of the looking out, Timothy admitted.
“We used to go to St. Willibrord Catholic High School, and a guy was picking on me a little bit one time and [Joseph] stepped in,” said Timothy. “I tried to talk him out of fighting, but him and the guy fought and went through a window together.”
On Tuesday, Timothy wanted to remember the good times.
“I am five minutes older than Joseph. But he used to always tease me that even though I’m older, he figured he was better-looking. He always got me with that one.”

I truly hope that Angelo Thomas gets the book thrown at him, and he goes away for life. Unfortunately, that won’t happen. He will probably do 5-10, if that. Meanwhile, a beautiful little girl has lost her daddy forever. Mr. Richardson’s actions are truly heroic, in putting his daughter’s life before his own. What will it take for people to get the message never to drink and drive? I know myself, when I go out, I have always taken a taxi. Even if I plan on going out for just one drink, because one never knows. To not have my vehicle simply removes the temptation of driving. It is simply not worth the risk. Drinking and driving penalties simply have to get tougher. There should be no second chances, in my opinion. Driving is a privilege, and should be treated that way. If you drink and drive, you give up that privilege.
Recently, here in Vancouver, Chad Krueger, lead singer for the rock group “Nickelback” was charged with DUI. Fortunately, no one was killed. His punishment? A $600 fine and a 1 year suspension. He is challenging the suspension because he lives an hour from Vancouver, and it would create undue hardship for him to not be able to drive. I say, “Too bad.” He obviously was not thinking about that when he got into his sports car after getting drunk. He’s lucky that is all he got. It could have been much worse. There could have been a daddy walking his little girl to McDonald’s for hamburgers, that he could have hit. Then where would Mr. Krueger be?

I just saw an interview with Star Trek XI director, J.J. Abrams, and he made some interesting comments about the new Star Trek movie, set for release in May, 2009. (Pushed back from it’s original release date of December 2008.) I am not a huge Trek fan. I enjoyed the original series for what it was, especially Shatner’s acting. The only Trek movies worth watching were Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, and Star Trek IV: The Long Voyage Home. Other than those two movies, the rest are fairly unremarkable. Again, the Next Generation was good for its time, but now seems rather dated. Voyager and DS9 where completely forgettable. However, I do go against popular opinion, and think Enterprise was the best of all the series’. There has even been talk of bringing a new series back to the small screen. Unless they are willing to go in a totally new direction with it, I just don’t think it will fly. IMHO, Battlestar Galactica has raised the standard of Sci-fi very high, and I just don’t think Star Trek can even compete.
This brings me to Abrams effort to revive the series in his new movie. He has stated that this movie will be a stand alone film, that all movie goers can enjoy, rather than something that caters to rabid Trekkers. He has also stated that it should please fans as it will remain faithful to the original idea. I am interested to see how Abrams will pull this off. How does one, “Go in a new direction, while remaining faithful to the original?” Abrams has also stated that the effects for this Trek are something that has never been done before. I am really interested to see where he goes with this! I cannot imagine what he means by this, as I don’t think he was referring to effects done just in a Trek movie, but in any movie. Hopefully Abrams can deliver.
Below is a picture of the “new” Enterpise in Earth orbit. I’m not sure if this was leaked from Abrams’ movie or is a fan creation. It looks very cool wherever it came from!

I found these 3 images floating around the intersphere. Could they be images from a widely anticipated Cloverfield sequel?

The Antarctic fur seal was observed by South African scientists attempting to have sex with the king penguin on Marion Island, in the sub-Antarctic region. The incident was recorded in the Journal of Ethology.
The effort lasted forty-five fruitless minutes, according to the BBC.
Nico de Bruyn, of the Mammal Research Institute at the University of Pretoria, South Africa, said that the seal’s motives, beyond the obvious, were unclear.
However, he speculates that it was frustrated behaviour on the part of an inexperienced seal unable to find a more suitable partner, or perhaps just a playful act that got carried away in the heat of the Antarctic moment.
“At first glimpse, we thought the seal was killing the penguin,” he said, “but then we realised that the seal’s intentions were rather more amorous.”
Dr de Bruyn and a colleague witnessed the seal, a young adult male in good physical condition and weighing around 100kg (220lb), subdue the 15kg (33lb) penguin by lying on it.
The penguin, of unknown sex, attempted to escape by flapping and trying to stand, but was unable to as the marine predator thrusted its pelvis in an apparently unsuccessful attempt to achieve congress. After giving up the seal wandered off, ignoring its victim altogether.
Sexual harassment between members of the same species is common, and even between different species of mammal – as dog owners will know – but this is believed to be the first recorded example of such an assault between two classes, birds and mammals.

Wow… just, wow. Actually, to be fair, you can’t blame the seal. The penguin is rather cute, and those Antarctic winters can be long.
